Growing Forward 2 is on track for Canada’s canola industry

December 7, 2012

Today’s announcement by Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz of federal programs under the Growing Forward 2 framework is creating the right environment for success, says Canola Council of Canada President Patti Miller.

The programs include AgriInnovation, AgriMarketing and AgriCompetitiveness.

“These programs will allow the canola industry to partner strategically with the public sector on research and innovation,” says Miller. “Minister Ritz’s vision for Growing Forward 2 outlined in these federally funded programs is right on track. It is consistent with the canola industry’s overall approach to market promotion and market access.”

Canada’s canola industry exports 85 percent of everything it produces. The industry is growing and is investing in Canada. The investment is both in private research as well as in more value added processing.

“Our industry’s growth is based on innovation and predictable access to markets around the world,” says Miller.  “Innovation, promotion and access to markets are the three critical components required for the competitiveness and growth of Canada’s canola sector.”

Canada’s agriculture sector and canola specifically, is an engine of economic growth for Canada.  Canola is Canada’s most valuable crop, generating over $15.4 billion in economic activity each year. It is responsible for 228,000 Canadian jobs.

The CCC is a full value chain organization representing the entire canola industry, including growers, seed developers, crushers and exporters.
